Lake Katlabug: the countdown is on the clock

Add to favourites

On 26 and 28 June, journalists from Yuriy Segodnya visited Lake Katlabug. In just two days, there were shocking changes: the water receded even further, despite the recent rains. The lake is rapidly becoming shallow. What is happening is no longer just a natural phenomenon - it is a disaster.

The situation threatens the farmers of Izmail district: fields are without water, and the future harvest is under threat. Local pensioners, who bought and planted seedlings with their last money, are losing everything. Flora and fauna are disappearing, and the sanitary situation is deteriorating. And all this is happening amidst the silence of the responsible authorities.

If urgent measures are not taken soon, the situation will become irreversible. It is still possible to save the lake. But the clock is ticking, not in days, but in hours.

For more information on the scale of the threat and possible solutions, see the video "South Today".
