WATER OF LIFE: OVC IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS AND IRRIGATION REVIVAL

📍On 23 July, a delegation from the Bolhrad region visited the Water of Life Water Users Organisation in the Suvorivska community of Izmail district. Oleksandr Iordanov, Deputy Head of the Bolhrad Rayon Administration, Serhiy Dimitriev, Mayor of Bolhrad, and farmers from the region got acquainted with successful practices of water resources distribution and discussed strategic aspects of the WUC's work.

🤝During the visit, the participants had the opportunity to learn more about to get acquainted with the infrastructure of Water of Life. They visited the main water distribution points, where detailed explanations were given on how the irrigation system works. Particular attention was paid to the use of modern technologies that allow efficient management of water resources and ensure even distribution of water among the organisation's members.

🌾As part of the visit, the participants visited the Stoyanov A.A. farm, which demonstrated innovative rice cultivation using drip irrigation for Odesa region. The farm has a high level of technological equipment and an innovative approach to agricultural business. Alla STOYANOVA's presentation of experimental cotton plots was particularly interesting, as it could become a new promising area for the region's development.

✍🏻After a tour of the WPC facilities, the participants gathered at a roundtable to discuss the key steps in establishing and developing water user organisations. Experienced representatives of Water of Life shared their knowledge and gave valuable advice on how to develop an effective water management strategy.

📊During the lively discussion, the participants discussed the main steps to create a DEC, in particular:

- Formation of an initiative group.

- Drafting a charter and registering an organisation.

- Attracting members and seeking funding.

- Identifying priority areas of activity and preparing projects for grants.

💧The Water of Life members shared their experiences and provided useful advice on how to overcome bureaucratic obstacles and manage resources effectively. They stressed the importance of cooperation between water users and support from local authorities.

💬"This visit was a vivid example of how important it is to share experience and knowledge. Direct dialogue and constructive discussion of current issues allow us to find optimal solutions and build a joint development strategy. We are grateful to the organisers - the UEC team and Alla Stoyanova personally - for this great opportunity," said Alexander Iordanov.

The discussion on the role of government support and international grant programmes, which can significantly help with infrastructure development, was particularly important. It was noted that cooperation between different WUCs and the exchange of experience are key factors for the successful functioning of the irrigation system in the region.

Restoration of irrigation and development of reclamation systems are critical for our region, especially in the context of climate change. We are always open to dialogue and ready to share our experience, we have one goal - the development of the agricultural sector of Ukraine," emphasises Alla STOYANOVA.
