THE PARLIAMENT OF UKRAINE ADOPTED DRAFT LAW NO. 9139: NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR UKRAINIAN WINEMAKERS

Add to favourites

Today, the Ukrainian agricultural sector is celebrating a significant event - the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has finally passed Draft Law No. 9139, which opens up new prospects for Ukrainian winemakers. The implementation of this law will ensure the harmonisation of Ukrainian standards with European norms for growing grapes and producing wine. This is a big step towards supporting and developing the national wine industry, which will create new opportunities for exports and strengthen the position of Ukrainian winemakers in the international market.

Key points of the law:

  • Implementation of European standards: The Law provides for the adaptation of Ukrainian legislation to European requirements in the field of viticulture and winemaking.
  • Simplification of procedures: The new rules simplify certification and quality control processes, which will reduce bureaucratic barriers for winemakers.
  • Support for small producers: The law also aims to support small wineries by facilitating their development and entry into new markets.
  • Protection of geographical names: A mechanism for protecting geographical names is being introduced to protect national brands from unfair competition.

Alla Stoyanova, known for her active involvement in promoting this bill, shared her impressions:

"The path to the adoption of this law was thorny. But, given its importance for Odesa region (60% of grape and wine production) and the country as a whole, we were ready for it. Together with the entire agricultural team, we went through numerous challenges, but the belief in the need for this initiative united us. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Taras Vysotskyi, the Agricultural Committee, as well as to the specialised enterprises of Odesa region and everyone who supported us along the way. This is a great victory for Ukrainian viticulture and winemaking, the development of which in Ukraine is not only an economic aspect. Grapes and wine are becoming a symbol of resilience, victory and national pride. This law will help our winemakers create quality products that will be recognised internationally, and the Victory Grape will become a true symbol of our country's prosperity.

The adoption of draft law No. 9139 is not only a legal act, but also an important step towards the prosperity of Ukrainian winemaking and increasing its competitiveness on the global stage.
