On 23 December 2024, a round table was held at the ONEU with the participation of the Institute of Agricultural and Food Economics (IAFE), Warsaw, Poland. WARSAW, POLAND, which discussed key issues of the strategy for the development of the agro-food sector of Odesa region. The event brought together representatives of the agrarian community, business, academics and government agencies to find new ways to improve agricultural policy, particularly in the context of Odesa region's integration into the European agri-food space.
In his opening remarks, Anatolii Kovalev, Rector of Odesa National University, stressed the importance of introducing European standards in the agricultural sector of Ukraine, particularly in Odesa region. He noted:
"Today, in the context of globalisation and constant changes in agricultural markets, it is very important to understand how to adapt local agri-food policy to the requirements of the European Union. The development strategy for the agri-food sector of Odesa region should take into account the needs and opportunities provided by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Not only the development of our region, but also our ability to compete in the international agricultural market depends on its implementation. Odesa National University is ready to become a scientific partner in the implementation of these important projects, as we have a huge potential for agricultural development through the latest research and innovative technologies."
Alla Stoyanovaspoke about the realities and prospects of investment support for agribusiness in Ukraine, focusing on the practical aspects of implementing innovative projects in the industry. She shared her experience of developing the agricultural sector in Odesa region and described the financing instruments that can help businesses overcome current economic challenges.
"It is important not only to receive investments, but also to use them properly. The time has come for the agricultural sector to be not only strong but also innovative and high-tech. If we want to integrate into the European space, we must apply the latest agricultural production methods. These include genetic improvements, production automation, and digital technologies for precision farming. Such support from the state and European institutions is very important for success," Alla Stoyanova said in her speech.

I am convinced that only through innovation, the use of the latest technologies and effective investment support can we make Odesa region's agribusiness successful and competitive in the European market," said Alla.
The roundtable was an important step towards a strategy for the development of the agri-food sector in Odesa region. Participants' presentations showed that the implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) requirements is not only necessary but also potentially beneficial for farmers. The use of innovative technologies, proper investment and cooperation between government agencies, research institutions and agricultural businesses are key factors for the successful development of the agricultural sector.
