A FRESH LOOK AT EXPORTS: NEW HONEY STANDARDS

Add to favourites

Ukraine is one of the leading honey producers in the world, and exports of this product are extremely important for our economy. Our honey is renowned for its quality, rich flavours and beneficial properties. However, beekeeping products, including honey, are sometimes subject to fraud and adulteration, especially through the addition of foreign sugars.

According to the European Commission, during the inspection of cargoes with honey and bee products at the EU borders, various violations were detected in 46% cases. In addition, 57% exporters from third countries that were subject to control were found to be suspected of adulterating honey with other sugars.

To improve the traceability of the supply chain of honey and bee products to the market, the European Union is strengthening control by exporting countries over market operators.

Starting from 30 November 2024, honey and other bee products will only be allowed to be imported into the EU if they originate from establishments listed by the competent authority of the exporting country.

In view of this, interested producers of honey and bee products must apply in advance to the territorial body of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection (at least one month in advance) to include their facilities in the lists allowing exports of honey and bee products for human consumption to the EU.

"In times of war, when every sector of our economy is important for the country's recovery and prosperity, we must protect our honey from fraud and counterfeiting.
This is not only a matter of economy, but also of our country's honour.
Each jar of honey is the work, hope and love of our beekeepers, which should not be devalued by unfair practices.

We believe in our farmers and their ability to provide the world with real, pure honey. We will protect our heritage by maintaining high standards of quality and transparency. Together, we must maintain trust in Ukrainian honey and ensure a stable future for our beekeepers and the entire agricultural industry.

Please support high-quality Ukrainian honey, because it is a part of our history and our future!" says Alla Stoyanova.
