🌍 UKRAINE DETERMINES WHAT ITS NATURE WILL BE AFTER THE WAR

Add to favourites

Published for public discussion Draft Strategy for the Conservation of Biological Diversity of Ukraine until 2035 - a document that for the first time systematically answers the question:
👉 how to restore the country so as not to lose its wildlife forever.
It is about the quality of life of people, the resilience of communities, food security and the climate future of Ukraine.
💥 The war has already caused large-scale damage to ecosystems:
- the destroyed steppes of the South
- damaged coastal areas
- The marshes and aquatic ecosystems of the North are under threat
- Rare species of flora and fauna suffer
That is why the Strategy proposes a new approach - to restore ecosystems as the basis of the economy and security of the state.
📌 Among the key objectives of the Strategy:
✔️ stop biodiversity loss
✔️ restore key ecosystems
✔️ integrate nature conservation into all sectors of the economy
✔️ increase community resilience to climate risks
✔️ make green recovery part of state policy
Important: the document was developed for almost a year with the participation of the government, scientists, international experts, NGOs and UNDP.
The strategy is aligned with Ukraine's global environmental commitments and the European approach to nature conservation.
🗣 And now the key word is society.
The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine has opened a public discussion and calls on all concerned to join in.
📩 The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine is looking forward to receiving proposals and comments on the draft Biodiversity Strategy within 30 days at o.blazhevych@me.gov.ua
This is a rare moment when the opinions of experts, communities and businesses can really influence public policy.
❗️ If we do not define the rules of nature conservation now, the consequences of war and climate will do it for us.
💬 Write in the comments:
- Which ecosystems need protection in the first place?
- Should nature restoration be part of the post-war economic strategy?
⬇️ The text of the Strategy is below the post. Read it, analyse it, get involved.
