New technologies are being introduced in the Izmail region to improve water exchange in the Danube lakes.

A versatile, powerful and multifunctional dredger, the Watermaster V amphibious dredger, was delivered to the Izmail Water Management Department.

This dredger was purchased by the Government of Japan as part of the Emergency Recovery Programme, Urgent Support to the Agricultural Sector international technical assistance project supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It is intended to be used by water management organisations under the management of the State Agency for Fisheries.

The Watermaster V is a multifunctional machine capable of performing a wide range of work in water bodies and marshland. It can operate as an amphibious excavator, a dredger, a combined milling dredger, a device for harvesting aquatic weeds and cleaning silt, a machine for driving piles in the water environment and for dredging reclamation channels and rivers. The company plans to start clearing silt from the Kyslytske arm, underwater and transport channels of the Suvorov and Kyslytske irrigation systems. This will allow for water filling and water exchange in the Danube reservoirs Kagul, Kartal, Katlabukh, Kita, Kugurlui, and Yalpug, which will improve water salinity and ensure high-quality irrigation of crops in farmers' fields.

It is difficult to overestimate the importance of such projects, as they not only improve water exchange in the Danube lakes, but also contribute to the development of the agricultural sector by providing the necessary conditions for irrigation of crops. This, in turn, increases yields and contributes to the stability of the region's food security," says Alla Stoyanova.

Thanks to its capabilities, the versatile Japanese machinery will become an indispensable tool in maintaining environmental balance and developing agriculture in the Izmail region, which is of strategic importance for the whole country.
